Closing Ceremony

Rhythmic swaying and rocking in beautiful hand-woven shawls (rebozos) soothe the nervous system and lull the mind. A gentle abdominal massage with warm oil relieves tension and revives movement and energy flow in several body systems. You are then lovingly woven into a chrysalis and space is held for you - your vulnerability and strength both being honoured as you reunite with a deep inner knowing. Being wrapped is deeply healing and nourishing, like a hug all over! In times when you feel yourself falling apart, the weave of the cloth holds you together, giving you permission to safely unravel within.

Traditionally, Closing Ceremonies are performed after birth as a way of mothering the new mother.

During pregnancy and birth, women selflessly open their mind, body and soul to another.

A child is born, and so is a mother 🌙✨

The ceremony helps her to navigate this powerful yet delicate transition and the complexity of emotions it entails, ultimately bringing her back to herself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Closing Ceremonies can also have magnificent benefits for most significant life transitions or personal struggles for men and women of any age, including, but not limited to:

  • Baby loss, miscarriage, abortion, stillbirth
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Important life changes (marriage, new job, moving home, divorce))
  • Chronic stress, burnout, anxiety, shock
  • Healing abuse and trauma
  • To help with overwhelm or sensory overstimulation, ADD, Autism
  • Menopause
  • Hysterectomy and mastectomy (before and/or after)
  • Fertility issues
  • To honour the menarche (the first menstrual cycle)
  • Endometriosis, PCOS, prolapses, diastasis recti
  • Terminal illness
  • To honour milestones e.g.,1-year post-birth, end of breastfeeding journey, children all left home

Ancient healing ceremonies like this are known to have been performed by women, for women across many different cultures across the world for centuries. The particular technique I have trained in has its roots in Ecuadorian culture for which I will be forever grateful for the shared wisdom of how to holistically nurture new mamas through such a raw and monumental time in their life.

The humble Rebozo (Mexican name) or Manta (Ecuadorian name), is deeply sacred and is also referred to as

'an extension of loving arms, hearts and hands'.

The Rebozos I use are all ethically sourced from families in Mexico who hand-weave them in several days up to a month, depending on the intricacy of the weave. When you are wrapped in a Rebozo, it is believed that you are being energetically held by the long lineage of women who have come before us who crafted, used and shared the knowledge of using Rebozos throughout life - particularly for supporting menstruation, pregnancy, birth and postpartum recovery.
